New Horizons for Young Women combines clinical therapy with emotional growth — or therapeutic/self help — education.

When our students are not in a therapy session (individual or group), they are experiencing the ups and downs of everyday life. New Horizons Instructors are trained in the facilitation of these life experiences. Every day our students are introduced to the emotional-growth tools that will help them learn to behave and communicate more productively.

These tools are introduced as part of a five-phase program, with each phase encompassing life's most important values.

We encourage each student to look at herself and how her life relates to…

Truth
We encourage each girl to

Share her personal story
Face her negative self-image
Learn how to communicate her emotions positively and negatively
Examine the excuses and lies she has created for herself

Friendship
We encourage each girl to

Learn about the qualities of healthy relationships
Discover how to give and receive guidance and set boundaries
Understand the sense of accountability and self-worth
Become skilled at establishing more positive social behaviors and attitudes

Forgiveness
We encourage each girl to

Take responsibility for and understand any unhealthy choices she has made
Stop playing the "blame game"
Accept that parents are human too
Turn past failures into practical wisdom

Acceptance
We encourage each girl to

Stop negative, self-destructive ways of thinking
Connect with her femininity and power
Establish a new, positive connection with family
Understand and accept both her strengths and weaknesses

Passage
We encourage each girl to

Plan how she will begin to use her strengths in a healthy manner
Formulate a strategy for overcoming setbacks
Use new skills to cope with upcoming challenges
Take the steps needed to transition into a responsible and powerful
young woman
